Why settle for looking 10 pounds thinner? by Patricia McLaughlin

Babe Hope thinks women who wear plus-size should forget about dressing to look thinner and instead dress to look pretty...

After a lifetime of struggling to look acceptable, though fat, then deciding to give up on acceptable and go for looking fabulous, and then launching a business that helps other plus-size women decide how they want to look and shop for a wardrobe that delivers, she's written a book...

Another problem for women who wear plus sizes is how much of the fashion advice they get comes from fashion editors who, as a condition of employment, live on lettuce and therefore can't know what they're talking about...they don't quite get the obstacles their larger readers are up against...

But what's most impressive about the book is it's ambition:  It goes way beyond offering to make large women look marginally thinner.  Hope -- her name couldn't be more appropriate - wants to change your way of being in the world, liberate you from your culturally induced sense that you need to be apologizing for youself, free you to take pleasure in who you are and how you look. Brava!

Plus-Size Fashion Tips by Sharon Mosley

When it comes to wearing plus-size clothes, it's all about attitude, says Babe Hope, author of a new guidebook: "Pretty Plus: How to Look Sexy, Sensational and Successful No Matter What You Weigh" (New Horizon Press, $14.95) Since Hope has struggled with weight issues all her life, she has decided to transform her "pitty party" into a "pretty party" by writing a book that gives new fashion skills to plus-sized women.

One of Hope's biggest tips centers around accessories: "For us curvy women, much of fashion, in terms of clothing, is dictated by fit," she says. "But when it comes to accessories, the sky's the limit and the opportunity to create "focus" on meaningful attention and expression abounds.  The plus-size woman should revel in this opportunity."
